The Ndebele people living in the Highveld region of South Africa are decendents of an Nguni tribe that in the early 16th century migrated from what is now Kwa-Zulu Natal. The wonderful and confident mural decorating skills are passed down from mother to daughter. Traditionally the designs were geometric but often imaginative exceptions are to be seen. The murals were originally done in earth pigments but are now becoming more intense and vivid with the availability of commercial paints.
