The Rhinoceros is a huge animal that ranks as one of the largest land animals. This design is of the White Rhino which is the larger of the two Rhino species in Africa. The White Rhino is less aggressive than the Black Rhino and has a square lip for grazing. It has two slightly curved horns which continue to grow all of its life. The horns of the female are longer and more slender than those of the male.
All Rhinoceros species are protected by law because they are very vulnerable to poachers who kill them for their horns. About 60 years ago they were on the brink of extinction, however thanks to a remarkable breeding and translocation programme their numbers have been built up.
